Celebrate Summer

When you live in Minnesota, you have to take advantage of summer weather, which means event season. The season kicks off with the downtown Memorial Day Street Fest with food, entertainment and vendors in addition to the Memorial Day Parade and events at the Veteran’s Memorial. June means Interlaken Heritage Days with activities, food, events, and of course, the parade. From Heritage Acres to Downtown to Gomsrud, there’s something for everyone. The Fairmont Triathlon has become one of the most popular in the region. Or participate in the youth event or 5K which partners with Bacon Capital. Celebrate the 4th with music at the Band Shell, events downtown, and of course fireworks. Watch from a boat or at Ward Park. Catch a popup event like Star Wars night, experience the Cedar Creek Open Disc Golf Tournament, or watch the calendar for new events. Cap off the summer with the Martin County Fair, “Minnesota’s Other Big Fair.” With vendors, food, rides, animals, entries, entertainment, and the Beer and Bacon Fest, it’s a perfect way to end summer.

Enjoy Fall

When you’re not checking out the last of the Farmer’s Market or apple picking at Center Creek or Timberlake Orchards, there are Fall events to check out too, before the temps crash. Check out Threshing Day at Heritage Acres in August with blacksmith demos, tractors and train rides. Or visit in October for their Harvest Festival with horse plowing, live music and a chance to explore their buildings and see what farming was like 100 years ago. Spend some quality time with your kids at the Mother/Son Event “Not all Superheroes Wear Capes” sponsored by Kids Just Want to Have Fun. Halloween has become a major event with activities and events around town. Visit Spooktacular at the Opera House for kids activities. Trick-or-Treat on Woodland Avenue, downtown or in your neighborhood. Trunk-or-Treat events sponsored by local groups are also becoming popular.

Winter & Spring

Winter kicks off at the Fairmont Glows Parade, downtown in November. Christmas lights, hot chocolate and Santa all start here. Shop local for Christmas, downtown, at the Merry & Bright event. Businesses are open late and Santa will be there. Stop by the Opera House for their Holiday Hoopla event. Enjoy cookies, kid’s activities, and Santa photos.

After Christmas, embrace the cold and snow. January is time for the Southern Minnesota Pond Hockey Championship. Fishing more your speed?  Compete in the Fairmont Lakes Foundation’s Ice Fishing Tournament.

Kid’s Just Want to Have Fun has a lineup of events in late winter early spring. Enjoy their Father/Daughter Dance. Their Easter Egg Hunt at Cedar Creek Park quickly became popular. Or visit Heritage Acres with your younger kids for their Peek Inside a Farm Event.
